Gold to coach Sharks

Gary Gold is set to replace Jake White as the Sharks director of rugby.

SARugbymag.co.za understands that the appointment could be made on Friday.

Gold is currently the head coach at the Kobe Kobelco Steelers in Japan, following stints as Bath's director of rugby and Springbok forwards coach, when John Smit, the current Sharks CEO, was captain.

While the bookies have been backing former All Blacks coach John Mitchell to get the Sharks job, Gold's people skills appeal to a union looking to move on from the brief Jake White era during which the coach lost the support of his players and management.
