Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu will be at the peak of his powers post the 2027 Rugby World Cup, but definitely in the mix for the Springboks this season and beyond, writes MARK KEOHANE.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu scored a stunning brace of tries against Dragons in Wales on Friday in his first game for the DHL Stormers since March.
The 22-year-old playmaker was one of 16 uncapped players that attended the first Bok alignment camp earlier this year, and writing for TimesLIVE, Keohane predicts Feinberg-Mngomezulu will be a key figure in South African rugby for the next decade.
Comparing his natural talent to former Proteas star Herschelle Gibbs, Keohane likens Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s impact to that of teammate and two-time Bok world champion Damian Willemse.
He argues that Willemse’s success is due in no small part to Stormers director of rugby John Dobson, and suggests Feinberg-Mngomezulu receives similar support, fostering his growth.
Keohane anticipates Feinberg-Mngomezulu’s versatility may appeal to Bok coach Rassie Erasmus, especially given competition in the flyhalf position.
KEO: Kriel, Masuku embody SA’s spirit of positivity
“Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu is gold. He has the Midas touch, and he will be a strong presence in South African rugby for the next decade,” he writes.
“Patience will be the greatest gift any coach can give to Feinberg-Mngomezulu. Patience is also what the rugby media and supporters must give this gem from the Western Cape.
“He most definitely will be in the mix for the national squad this season and be a part of the journey to Australia in 2027.
“On Friday night he scored two tries from three touches, and immediately made his presence felt. Get used to this presence. It shines bright.”
