Grey Bloem edge EG Jansen

Grey College flyhalf Mario Vieira kicked a late conversion to give his side a 17-15 win against EG Jansen on day three of the Kearsney Easter Festival.

Grey went into the third and final day as one of three unbeaten sides, but it was EG Jansen who made all the play in the opening stages and took a 15-3 lead, with scores from flank Dylan van der Walt, wing Irvin Ali and lock Edwin Jansen.

Grey rallied back to take play into Jansies territory and flank Johan Dippenaar drove over from the back of a maul.

With the clock ticking down, SA’s No 1-ranked team had one last go at the EG Jansen line and centre PR Serfontein powered over from close range to tie the scores at 15-15. Vieira held his nerve to add the decisive conversion, as Grey ended the festival as the only unbeaten team at the 2015 event.

Earlier in the day, flank Devon Muller’s brace guided Westville to a 34-26 win over SACS, to end the Cape side’s two-match unbeaten streak in their debut season at the festival; Affies ran in nine tries to demolish Framesby 57-0; Middelburg ground out a 23-15 victory to hand Selborne their first loss at the festival; Menlopark held off Glenwood in the second half to claim a thrilling 23-19 triumph and hosts Kearsney suffered a 45-26 defeat against Dale, their third loss in as many matches.
