A two-time Currie Cup champion (1995, 1996), former Bok lock Mark Andrews made a massive 162 appearances and scored 11 tries for the Sharks over a nine-year tenure. Standing at 2.01m and weighing 116kg during his playing days, Andrews was mobile for his size, formidable at the lineout and dished out crunching hits at every opportunity.
The most-capped Currie Cup player of all time, Jacques Botes made 270 appearances for the Sharks, scored 382 points and won three Currie Cup titles (2008, 2010 and 2013). Botes was dynamic, tenacious on attack and defence, had a good turn of pace and was a threat at the breakdown.
“The Rolls-Royce of fullbacks”, Andre Joubert was elite, dependable and consistent, matching exquisite timing on attack with good positional play and a sterling kicking game to boot. He played for the Sharks from 1992 to 1999, winning 130 caps while racking up an incredible 1,097 points. Joubert won Currie Cup titles in 1992 and 1995, before scoring two tries in the 1996 final to claim a third Currie Cup trophy.

A Sharks stalwart and multiple Currie Cup champion (2008, 2010 and 2013), John Smit was the ultimate leader. Blessed with an incredible rugby IQ, immense strength and great technical ability, Smit’s work ethic and determination inspired his Sharks teammates to give it their all.
Among the most respected captains in Sharks history, former Springbok skipper Gary Teichmann was a man who led by deed through a combination of toughness and a dogged work rate. He made 144 appearances for the Sharks, won Currie Cup titles in 1992, 1995, and 1996 (captain in 1995 and 1996), and led the side to two Super Rugby finals (1994 and 1996).
A utility back and a try-scoring machine, Stefan Terblanche crossed the whitewash for fun, had great counter-attacking ability and was renowned for try-saving tackles when occupying the fullback berth. Making over 150 appearances for the Sharks from 1998 to 2011, he was the equal top try-scorer in the 1998 Super 12 (10 tries) and is a two-time Currie Cup champion (2008, 2010).
