Flyhalf Jordan Hendrikse kicked 23 points as the Lions comfortably beat Perpignan at Stade Aime Giral on Sunday to open the 2023-24 Challenge Cup with a win.
The Lions secured a 28-12 win over Perpignan despite fielding a completely overhauled starting XV from the team that annihilated the Dragons in the URC last week.
Hendrikse kicked three penalties to the four slotted by Perpignan fullback Jean-Pascal Barraque, but it was the solitary try from winger Rabz Maxwane that secured a narrow 16-12 lead for the visitors at half time.

Struggling to make their way over the hosts’ try line, the Lions continued to opt for poles as Hendrikse kicked four more penalties, while Perpignan were unable to add to their half-time score.
