JOHN MITCHELL, writing on the Vodacom Rugby Portal, looks at the selection dilemmas facing the Springboks, All Blacks and Wallabies ahead of the World Cup.
Heyneke Meyer, Steve Hansen and Michael Cheika are all faced with different selection headaches ahead of the announcement of their 31-man World Cup squads. However, of the three mentors, I believe Meyer has the most dilemmas to wrestle with before the 31 August deadline.
I expect Meyer to select his best team for the 8 August match against Argentina in Durban – as he’s under pressure to build confidence and wins following consecutive defeats – and then try different combinations in Buenos Aires. This approach would allow him to test fringe players under pressure.
