High error rate hampered Reds

Poor execution cost the Reds in their 31-28 defeat against the Rebels at Suncorp Stadium, according to SARugbymag.co.za's Opta-powered stats.

Both teams scored four converted tries with a penalty by Rebels flyhalf Jack Debreczeni separating them in the end. But the Reds only have themselves to blame for the loss.

The hosts ran 543m to the Rebels' 421, made 153 carries to 89, beat 28 defenders to 19, completed 180 passes to 120 and offloaded 19 times to eight. They camped inside the Rebels' 22 for the majority of the match, but failed to come away with points regularly. There was no spark in the Reds' static attack.

To add insult to injury, the Reds only conceded eight penalties compared to 17 by the Rebels and yet the outcome was decided by one of those eight penalties.
