Lion King to bash down Bok door

Lions flank Jaco Kriel is on the cover of the new SA Rugby magazine, on sale this week.

Few players have been as unlucky as Kriel when it comes to Springbok selection. Having gone on the Boks’ 2014 end-of-year tour without getting a game, he had an outstanding Super Rugby campaign for the Lions that many thought would result in a Test debut in 2015.

However, such is South Africa’s loose-forward depth that Kriel was overlooked again. The 26-year-old went on to lead the Lions to Currie Cup glory and was the only non-Bok to be nominated for the 2015 SA Player of the Year award.

Kriel has the opportunity to impress a new Bok coach this year and if he can maintain his red-hot form, or get even better as Warren Whiteley insists he will, a Test cap will surely come.
