Lions’ Boks sign new deals

Springbok trio Marnitz Boshoff, Julian Redelinghuys and captain Warren Whiteley have all extended their contracts with the Lions until 2016.

Additionally, Jaco Kriel and Ruan Dreyer – Bok squad members for the end-of-year tour – have also signed on for a further two seasons with the franchise.

After a stellar 2014 season which resulted in their best ever Vodacom Super Rugby finish as well as a Currie Cup final, high performance manager Bart Schoeman said the Lions were thrilled to have secured the services of their key players.

'Having re-signed these players will certainly add to the confidence and continuity at the GLRU and will assist the union in meeting the goals we have set ourselves since our readmission into the Super Rugby tournament in 2014,' said Schoeman. 'These senior players join Derick Minnie, Stokkies Hanekom, Warwick Tecklenburg, Sampie Mastriet, Franco Mostert and other experienced players in extending their contracts with the GLRU.

'Combining these signings with a host of talented junior players, currently contracted to the union, the future really does look bright for the Lions.'

Additionally, the GLRU will engage in contractual negotiations with selected senior and junior players in the coming weeks.
