In a poll to determine which side will win the 2023 Currie Cup, the results were astounding, as readers voted for last year’s wooden spoonists to clinch the title, while completely disregarding both of last year’s finalists.
A resounding 38% of readers picked the Lions to go all the way, while Western Province came in second (18%) followed by the Bulls (12.2%), Cheetahs (11.8%) and Sharks (9%).
Last year’s finalists combined for less than 9% of the vote, with Griquas (4.4%) edging the defending champion Pumas (4%).
At the very bottom, with only 2% of the vote, the newly promoted Griffons were given almost no chance of success in this year’s competition.
