Springbok lock Lood de Jager will make his return from a heart issue when he starts for Japanese club the Wild Knights on Saturday.
De Jager was a shock omission from South Africa’s squad for the World Cup, after a “chest issue” forced him to miss the first of three warm-ups against Argentina in Buenos Aires.
It was later revealed that the lock was diagnosed with pericarditis a day before the squad was announced, which has kept him sidelined ever since.
The 30-year-old Springbok was cleared to start training again in December and linked up with the Wild Knights last month.
De Jager has been named to start at No 5 for his club in Saturday’s match against the Dynaboars.
His return will be welcomed by the Springboks, especially as Munster duo RG Snyman (chest/shoulder) and Jean Kleyn (eye and knee) are currently sidelined.
