Flyhalf Robbie Blair coolly converted a late try to give Western Province a historic victory against the touring All Blacks in 1976.
Western Province hosted the All Blacks at a packed Newlands Stadium as part of New Zealand’s 1976 tour of South Africa.
The All Blacks had not been beaten in four years and were not expected to be given much trouble by the home side.
A hard-fought encouter saw Western Province trailing by 11 points with 14 minutes to play.
Struggling with the set of matchday rugby balls that were under-inflated, Blair missed eight kicks at goal.
A converted try from wing Bossie Clerk gave WP hope of a comeback, before captain Morne du Plessis sent left wing Chris Pope over in the corner to narrow the scores at 11-10 with the conversion to come.
Despite only being successful with one of his nine kicks at goal, Blair stepped up to slot the winning conversion from a difficult angle to snatch the victory.
