Mbonambi to delay decision over future

Springbok hooker Bongi Mbonambi will postpone making a decision on his future at the Stormers until after the British & Irish Lions series in July and August.

As reported by this website, Mbonambi is an appealing target for the Sharks as the Durban side looks to further strengthen their pack after the signings of Le Roux Roets and Reniel Hugo.

The Vodacom Bulls are also said to be interested in Mbonambi, along with as many as four overseas teams.

However, he does also have an attractive contract-extension offer that has been tabled by the Stormers, but has yet to sign on the dotted line, leading to suspicion that he could be reconsidering the Sharks deal.

Speaking to Netwerk24, Mbonambi’s agent, Gert Andries van der Merwe, said the 2019 World Cup winner is in no rush to make any decision over his future.

‘Bongi will wait until after the Rainbow Cup competition and the series against the British & Irish Lions before he makes a final decision,’ Van der Merwe said.
