Munster head coach Johann van Graan has confirmed they are in ‘advanced discussions’ to sign World Cup-winning Bok duo Damian de Allende and RG Snyman.
Reports in Ireland have suggested that the pair will join the PRO14 side at the start of the 2020-21 season, following their respective stints in Japan’s Top League, which ends in May next year.
Van Graan, who assisted former Bok coaches Alistair Coetzee and Heyneke Meyer, has confirmed talks with De Allende and Snyman, but made it clear there have yet been no official agreements.
‘We are in advanced discussions with both players, but there are no contracts signed at this stage,’ said Van Graan.
‘We are confident there will be a commitment in the future, subject to conditions, but at this stage no contracts have been signed and we have nothing official to confirm.’
Both players featured prominently throughout the victorious World Cup campaign and will be familiar to Van Graan after his time with the Boks and in Snyman’s case, the Vodacom Bulls.
De Allende has reportedly been a target for Munster for some time and will likely be brought in to replace former Springbok and Stormers back Jaco Taute, who departed to English side Leicester at the conclusion of last season. Should he sign for Munster, the 27-year-old will follow in the footsteps of former Bok captain Jean de Villiers, who featured for the Irish province a decade ago.
