Loose forward Oupa Mohoje has signed a contract extension with the Cheetahs until 2021.

The franchise announced on Monday that the 29-year-old will be on its books until at least 31 May 2021.

Mohoje captained the South African A side against the England Saxons in 2016 and played 19 Test matches for the Springboks between 2014 and 2018.

In addition, he made 78 appearances for the Cheetahs since he joined the team in 2013 – 39 times in Super Rugby, 23 in the Currie Cup and 16 in the PRO14.

Mohoje was rewarded with the captaincy for the 2018-19 PRO14 season, but unfortunately his campaign lasted for just 18 minutes, when a serious knee injury against Munster at Thomond Park ruled him out for the rest of the season. He has been ravaged by injury since then.

Commenting on this opportunity to remain at the union, Mohoje said: ‘It is a privilege and honour for me to stay at the Cheetahs and I can’t wait to play my first game. As they say, home is where the heart is.’
