Pick your Bok 10: Libbok or Willemse

Who should start at flyhalf for the Springboks on Saturday when they take on the All Blacks in a Rugby Championship clash at Mount Smart Stadium in Auckland?

The world champions kicked off their campaign with an impressive 43-12 win against the Wallabies at Loftus Versfeld. The match marked Manie Libbok’s first Test start in four appearances for South Africa and the mercurial playmaker kicked nine points in a solid outing.

Libbok was included in the touring party that travelled to Auckland on Sunday, along with Damian Willemse who played off the bench in Pretoria. While the 28-Test veteran is reportedly in line to start at No 10 against New Zealand, he appeared to be favouring his heavily strapped left knee.

The All Blacks are sure to put up more of a fight than the Wallabies, and the Bok backline may consequently benefit from Willemse’s physicality in a tighter Test match. But Libbok is the more established goalkicker, complemented fullback Willie le Roux on attack and is riding a wave of confidence.
