From fringe player to the guy around whom the Bok backline is chosen, he has become integral to Rassie Erasmus and Jacques Nienaber’s plans if the defending world champions want to dominate all-comers this year.

The 24-year-old is pushing the two most experienced Bok flyhalves, Handre Pollard and Elton Jantjies, for a starting position, while at franchise level he is a vital cog in the Stormers’ Vodacom United Rugby Championship title defence and in their maiden Champions Cup campaign.
Featuring at fullback, flyhalf and centre for the Boks and Stormers last year, Willemse impressed with his composure under pressure and his undeniable X factor, and his progression and maturity was highlighted throughout the Test season.
