The October edition of SA Rugby magazine celebrates the destructive power of the Springboks’ Bomb Squad and dives deep into the heart of Rassie Erasmus’ creation.
The latest issue is on the shelves just as the Springboks are about to unleash a seven-one bench against Ireland in the crucial World Cup pool match on Saturday.
WATCH: Why the Boks will beat Ireland
It is the second time the Boks have played the seven-one joker, having used the tactic to great effect to claim a record win over the All Blacks in their final World Cup warm-up at Twickenham.
The creation of the “Bomb Squad” coincided with Erasmus’ appointment and it has been carried forward by Jacques Nienaber. Prior to the Twickenham Massacre, a six-two bench pulverised England in the 2019 World Cup final.
The “Bomb Squad” is just one innovation from Erasmus, who played most of his Test rugby under Nick Mallett, and this issue features juicy extracts from the books recently published by both.
Meanwhile, the next chapter of the United Rugby Championship will be penned when the 2023-24 season kicks off in October, one week before the World Cup final. Dive into the preview for each of the four South African teams, as the Stormers look to defend their conference crown from the Sharks, Bulls and Lions.
