Western Province claimed the win and a bonus-point in a high-scoring Currie Cup shootout against the Griffons in Cape Town on Saturday night.
Province ran in seven tries en route to a 47-28 victory at DHL Stadium.
Despite trailing early in the first half after Griffons centre Carl-Jan Coetzee dotted down, Province scored two tries courtesy of winger Angelo Davids and fullback Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu, before burly centre Marquit September restored the visitors’ lead with a powerful effort.
WP No 8 Keke Morabe had the last say in the first half, scoring to establish a 19-14 lead at the break.

The hosts carried their gusto into the second half, scoring through centre Juan de Jongh before Griffons scrumhalf Jaywinn Juries dotted down and converted to make it a five-point ballgame again.
A second try for Morabe on the 60th-minute was cancelled out by Griffons replacement flyhalf Robbie Peter’s touchdown eight minutes later, but Davids then bagged his second try to hand WP a 12-point lead.
Closing the match in style, WP ran in their seventh try through lock Ruben van Heerden to seal a comfortable victory.
