Toulon reportedly held talks with Springbok flanker Pieter-Steph du Toit about a move to the French giants, but have since abandoned their bid following wage discussions.
According to a report on France’s L’Equipe, the Top 14 club looked into the possibility of signing the 66-Test-capped World Cup winner, but it is believed that his salary expectations were too high.
In December 2022, Du Toit was linked by Sunday newspaper Rapport with a return to the DHL Stormers at the end of May after his current contract with Japanese Top League side Toyota Verblitz expires.

It was reported that a third party is willing to help pay the 30-year-old’s salary, as it is understood that the South African teams have already spent a large portion of their budgets until 2024.
Du Toit, the 2019 World Rugby Player of the Year, left the Stormers two years ago after making 59 appearances for the Cape side from 2016 to 2021.
