Fijian legend dies at 37

Former Highlanders, Leicester and Fiji centre Seru Rabeni passed away on Tuesday.

According to, the 37-year-old died while having breakfast at his house in Nasaki, Fiji. It is believed he had a heart attack.

His father-in-law, Viliame Kanatabua, has confirmed that Rabeni recently suffered from a long-term illness, but that he had recovered. 

Rabeni earned 30 Test caps for Fiji, who he represented at the 2003 and 2007 World Cups, and also played for the Fiji Sevens team.

He played 11 games for the Highlanders in 2003 and 2004, and made 63 English Premiership appearances for Leicester between 2004 and 2009.

Rabeni, who had been coaching since his retirement, is survived by his partner and daughter in Hong Kong, and his first wife and two sons in Fiji.
