Blitzboks stalwart Siviwe Soyizwapi is determined to rebound from the “most difficult challenge” of his career, having been sidelined since August following a knee injury.
Soyizwapi required surgery, and speaking to Netwerk24, the 31-year-old former captain expressed the psychological toll of being away from the sport he loves.
““I think this is the most difficult injury I have ever had. To be ripped away from what I love for such a long period is really challenging – more psychologically than anything else,” he told Netwerk24.
“One has good and bad days, it’s a really challenging time. In addition, the season is already well underway, which means you are missing out on game time.

“So far it has been an interesting journey, I think it is one of the most difficult challenges that can come one’s way.”
He is eyeing a comeback in June during the Monaco qualifying tournament for the Paris Olympics, where the Blitzboks have a final chance to secure their place a month before the Games.
On his recovery and potential return, ‘Shakes’ added: “I’m quite sure I will. The body of an 18-year-old has not experienced as much wear and tear as someone who is 31 years old.
“[But] I don’t doubt myself; I will be back.”
