Sharks confirm 45-man squad

Sharks players celebrate a try Sharks players celebrate a try
Published on January 21, 2020

Sharks coach Sean Everitt has named a fresh-looking 45-man Sharks squad for the 2020 Vodacom Super Rugby season.

There are a number of fresh faces in the squad, including new signings Andisa Ntsila, Henco and James Venter, Jordan Sesink-Clee, Le Roux Roets, Michael Kumbirai, Ox Nche, Sikhumbuzo Notshe, Madosh Tambwe and Jordan Chait.

The squad also feature a number of youngsters who have been promoted from the Sharks youth structures including Evan Roos, Celimpilo Gumede, Emile van Heerden, Boeta Chamberlain, Murray Koster, Sanele Nohamba and Thaakir Abrahams.

All of this offsets the exodus of players that the Sharks suffered after the 2019 Super Rugby season.

The pack will be without the services of the Du Preez twins, lock Gideon Koegelenberg, props Beast Mtawarira and Coenie Oosthuizen, hooker Akker van der Merwe and flanks Philip van der Walt and Jacques Vermeulen. Meanwhile, in the backs Robert du Preez, Rhyno Smith and Kobus van Wyk have all moved on.

The Sharks will be led by Lukhanyo Am this season, to be assisted by a leadership group of Louis Schreuder, Curwin Bosch, Thomas du Toit, Andre Esterhuizen and Makazole Mapimpi.
