Neil Powell could only confirm that Rohan Janse van Rensburg will stay with the Sharks until the end of the season, after reports linking the centre with a move to France.
According to French news outlet Sud Ouest, Springbok centre Janse van Rensburg has signed a three-year deal to join Top 14 challengers Bordeaux Begles.
Director of rugby Powell was asked about the rumours, during an online media briefing, and said that there have been no discussions over extending Janse van Rensburg’s contract.
“Listen, Rohan is still committed to us until the end of the season,” Powell said.
“We have not yet entered into discussions with him about whether we will renew his contract.
“For now all I can say is that he is committed to the Sharks and is contracted with us until at least the end of June.”
While he played 18 games in his first season at Kings Park after signing from Sale Sharks, Janse van Rensburg has struggled for form this season, making five of his eight appearances in all competitions as a substitute.
Janse van Rensburg has fallen out of favour with head coach John Plumtree, as Francois Venter has mostly started alongside Lukhanyo Am in the Sharks’ midfield.
The 29-year-old is now set to link up with former Sharks assistant coach Yannick Bru in France and will likely complete the move before the Currie Cup gets underway in July.
