The Six Nations have pushed through a move to allow players to feature their names on the back of their jerseys during the upcoming tournament.
According to a report by Telegraph Sport, the idea has been supported by all six member unions and will only need to be ratified during a board meeting ahead of the 2024 tournament, which kicks off on 2 February.
The move has been made as the Six Nations continue their drive to bring new fans into the game, along with the release of the Netflix documentary Six Nations: Full Contact.
The idea is that having names on jerseys will allow new fans in particular to identify the players they are watching much easier.
Traditionalists have opposed the idea in the past, arguing that it suggests players own their jerseys and are putting themselves ahead of the team.
England and Scotland allowed players to have names on their jerseys during their 2022 November Test matches and, along with Italy, decided to continue the innovation throughout the 2023 Six Nations.
Wales, Ireland and France have now reportedly agreed to come on board with the idea in 2024, as the drive to reach a younger generation of fans continues.
