The transfer saga around RG Snyman has taken a fresh twist, with the Springbok lock now set to remain in Ireland despite earlier links with a move to Bath.

Munster last month announced that the 28-year-old is set to end his four-year stay in Limerick, having not been able to offer him an extension on his current contract.

The tug-of-war for Snyman’s signature was seemingly decided after reputable French outlet L’Equipe reported Snyman had accepted a big-money move to Bath, currently coached by Johann van Graan, worth in the region of R10 million.

However, in a remarkable new development, it appears that 131kg lock could yet remain in Ireland and reunite with former Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber.

According to The Irish Times, Leinster are set to snap up Snyman from their rivals, as a replacement for fellow Bok lock Jason Jenkins.

Jenkins is reportedly set to move on from Leinster, whom he also joined from Munster, at the end of the season, with a return to South Africa in the works.

Despite Snyman’s injury record, which has restricted him to just 10 appearances in four seasons, Leinster feel that he can provide suitable depth in the second row with Ireland internationals Joe McCarthy, James Ryan and Ryan Baird.
