While Duane Vermeulen has reportedly held “constructive talks” with the DHL Stormers over a coaching role, both parties are waiting to get the green light from SA Rugby.
According to Netwerk24, the two parties held a constructive meeting on Wednesday over Vermeulen starting his transition into coaching at the DHL Stormers.
Vermeulen would reportedly join DHL Western Province’s junior pipeline as a forwards coach and serve as a consultant to the Stormers.
However, Vermeulen’s agent told Netwerk24 that his potential appointment needs to be approved by SA Rugby, who have yet to confirm whether there are plans to involve Vermeulen in coaching the Springboks.
Rumours suggest that Rassie Erasmus has settled on former Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery as his defence coach, while ex-All Blacks flyhalf Tony Brown has been roped in as an attack coach.
The remaining coaching positions in the Springbok management team are filled by the 2023 World Cup-winning staff, who have extended their contracts with SA Rugby until the 2027 World Cup.
