DHL Stormers assistant coach Dawie Snyman has extolled the benefits of a possible positional switch for Evan Roos when the blockbuster No 8 returns from injury.
Blessed with an industrial leg drive, and surprising turn of speed for a 110kg loose forward, back-to-back Vodacom URC finalist Roos was poised to make a resounding impact this season before a broken jaw stalled the 23-year-old’s progress.
Hacjivah Dayimani has shot the lights out from the back of the scrum in Roos’ absence, and speaking with Netwerk24, Snyman reckons the five-Test Springbok’s comeback when the Stormers return to action for the 17 February clash against the Sharks could be with No 6 on the back of his jersey.

Snyman, though, is confident that Roos has the attributes to excel as an openside flanker, providing further back-up for Deon Fourie, who will be unavailable due to a national team rest period.
“Being versatile is recommended for a player these days,” Snyman told Netwerk24. “Maybe having Evan play in that position would be good for his path going forward.
“He is very strong on the ball and a good athlete. He plays very close to the ball in our system, so I don’t think it will require a huge adjustment.”
