English Premiership club Sale Sharks are reportedly set to add to their large South African contingent by signing a key member of the DHL Stormers’ forward pack.
According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, Ernst van Rhyn is set to leave his boyhood province at the end of the season for Manchester where he will join the group of South Africans at Sale Sharks.
Born in Cape Town and educated at Paarl Gymnasium, the underrated Van Rhyn has been with the Stormers and Western Province since the his professional debut in 2018.
The 25-year-old has captained Western Province and the Stormers and can play at lock and blindside flank.
At Sale, Van Rhyn is set to join compatriots Robert, Jean-Luc and Daniel du Preez, Akker van der Merwe, Coenie Oosthuizen, former Stormers lock Cobus Wiese, and flank Jono Ross.
Meanwhile, it has also been reported that the Vodacom Bulls are set to further strengthen their pack by signing Sharks tighthead prop Khutha Mchunu.
The 25-year-old would become the latest tighthead prop to leave Kings Park, following Thomas du Toit (Bath) and Carlu Sadie (Bordeaux) out after the Sharks signed Springbok tighthead Vincent Koch.
The Vodacom Bulls have already announced the signings of Jannes Kirsten, Henry Immelman, Wilco Louw and Jaco van der Walt for next season.
