TMO stabbed on N2 highway

Shaun Veldsman was assaulted in his car after Saturday's Vodacom Super Rugby match at Newlands.

According to Netwerk24, Veldsman was attacked in his bakkie on the N2 at around 9pm, while on his way to Robertson.

Saru's head of corporate affairs, Andy Colquhoun, said Veldsman's window on the driver's side was broken and someone stabbed him with a sharp object.

'He has a hole in his lung after being stabbed,' said Colquhoun.

Veldsman managed to escape from the vehicle and ran away, before someone helped him on the side of the road. He was admitted to the Stellenbosch Medi Clinic and was in a stable condition on Sunday.

Veldsman is scheduled to serve as a TMO for Sunday's Six Nations match between Ireland and England in Dublin, but it's unclear whether he'll be able to travel abroad with his injuries.
