Debutant Ricardo Duarttee was awarded a place in the World Sevens Series dream team from the 2022-23 Dubai leg, along with two Blitzboks teammates.
Duarttee, who has earned the nickname ‘Tricky Ricky’, scored four tries – including a brace versus Samoa – and kicked five conversions to help South Africa win a fourth title in the desert on the spin, and a 10th overall.
Skipper Siviwe ‘Shakes’ Soyizwapi and veteran playmaker Branco du Preez were also included in the standout lineup.

With the Dubai title in the bag, the Blitzboks will look for back-to-back wins, along with breaking their home hoodoo, at the Cape Town tournament starting on Friday. The hosts have been drawn in a challenging Pool A, along with rivals Fiji, flaky France and consistent Canada.
