The World Cup-winning Springboks must return to Vodacom URC duty whenever they feel like it, according to SARugbymag.co.za readers.
South Africa’s four URC challengers have made a slow start to the 2023-24 season with the world champion Boks on an enforced post-World Cup break. There are growing calls for the Boks to be given the green light to return to play, but almost half of readers polled (46%) on the matter believe the decision should be left to the players’ discretion.
State of the URC: No SA teams in Top 6
The current arrangement is the right way to go, according to 36% of readers who voted for the cavalry to take a month off after the World Cup. Surprisingly, only 11% of the vote called for the Boks to jet home from France and dive straight into the URC, while 8% believe the Boks can do with even more time off and should return sometime in 2024.
