Former All Blacks assistant coach Joe Schmidt is reportedly poised to take the reins as the Wallabies’ new head coach, succeeding Eddie Jones.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Rugby Australia is expected to make the official announcement in the coming days, with the final paperwork being the only remaining hurdle.
Schmidt, 58, previously led Ireland to great success from 2013 to 2019, securing three Six Nations titles and historic wins over the All Blacks.

Despite a World Cup quarter-final loss in 2019, Schmidt’s coaching prowess has been acknowledged.
Recently assisting the All Blacks in the World Cup, Schmidt’s anticipated appointment comes in the wake of Jones’ October resignation.
The Wallabies’ disappointing performance in 2023, winning only two of nine tests, adds weight to Schmidt’s selection, making him the likely front-runner for the coveted coaching position.
