In a major coup for Moana Pasifika, the Super Rugby Pacific outfit has added one of Wales rugby’s all-time legends to its staff.
Moana Pasifika confirmed on Tuesday that former Wales and British & Lions flyhalf Stephen Jones will be the new backs coach of the franchise from next season.
Jones, who scored 917 points in 104 Tests, served as Wales’ attack coach from 2019 to 2022, and can’t wait to begin a new challenge in the southern hemisphere competition.
“I’m excited to join this organisation and I’m looking forward to the new challenges of the Super Rugby Pacific competition” Jones said in an official statement.

“I am excited to bring my perspective to the style of rugby played in the Pacific and the southern hemisphere and help the next crop of Pasifika talent flourish.”
Head coach Tana Umaga added. “He brings a different style of thought process to us as well as the necessary skill set for our attack and kicking strategy.
“He’ll also be able to develop our first five-eighths and game drivers which is crucial for not only Moana Pasifika but Samoa and Tonga as well.”
Moana Pasifika also announced the appointment of Toaigaotumua Tom Coventry as forwards coach. Coventry is a three-time Super Rugby title holder with the Blues and Chiefs, with a coaching CV that also includes the Manu Samoa, New Zealand Schools, New Zealand U20s, and four years as co-head coach of a then ITM Cup-winning Hawke’s Bay.
