If he is back on the market, there is no doubt that the local South African teams would be eager to recruit Le Roux.
Having started his career at the Boland Cavaliers, Le Roux has also represented the Cheetahs, Griquas and Sharks.
Jake White has made no secret of his desire to add more Springboks to the roster at the Vodacom Bulls, while the DHL Stormers may be looking for a new playmaker, depending on whether Manie Libbok stays in Cape Town or takes up a reported move to France.
Kolisi blow: Who should captain the Boks?
The Lions fielded a youthful team this year and may look to add another experienced back to their squad as they attempt to break into the Vodacom United Rugby Championship top eight next season.
A return to the Free State, where Le Roux shot onto the radar for national colours, may also appeal to the veteran, similar to how the Cheetahs recruited Frans Steyn.
