WP CEO calls it a day

Rob Wagner has announced his retirement, effective immediately, and will be replaced by Gavin Lewis as chief executive.

Wagner has been working for Western Province Rugby and the Western Province Rugby Union for 25 years and played an instrumental role in the transition from the amateur to professional era.

'It has been a very real privilege and an honour to serve Western Province Rugby. I have been blessed to be able to serve such a famous brand as an administrator,' Wagner said.

WPRU president Thelo Wakefield thanked Wagner for his contribution to the union.

'Rob leaves a significant legacy behind. He set a high standard in both the union and the company, and we will miss the commitment and dedication of someone who can be described as a true Province man,' said Wakefield.

Lewis, who is currently serving as general marketing manager, will take over as interim CEO.
