Oberholzer also said his possible return to the sports governing body in the Republic would not affect the WP administration process that began in October 2021.
According to Rapport on 19 February, Oberholzer and SARU president Mark Alexander had come to an agreement on his position, but were awaiting the approval of its executive committee.
Oberholzer is a seasoned administrator having served as Sanzaar’s CEO at the launch of Super Rugby, before taking over the position of SA Rugby Football Union managing director between 1996 and 2003.

In a report on Sport24, Oberholzer was asked if reports of an SA Rugby approach were true,, and he said: “That is so, yes.
“I’ve been made an offer by SA Rugby to be the interim CEO. But that will not stop the WP administration.
“SA Rugby will just appoint another administrator to take care of the administrative process. The administration has got nothing to do with the individual but everything to do with the process.
“And that process will continue.”
