The Blitzboks brushed aside Spain on Friday to complete a perfect start to the Perth Sevens.
Having started their Perth Sevens by beating Canada, the Blitzboks fought to a 21-14 victory against Spain to finish day one of the tournament unbeaten.
A converted second-half try from captain Sevlyn Davids was the difference between the two teams as the Springbok Sevens had to spend long periods of the game on defence.
Spain punished a sleepy start from the Blitzboks, during which Zain Davids was yellow carded for a knock-down, by scoring the first try of the match in the opening 90 seconds.
However, the Blitzboks quickly hit back with tries from Ronald Brown and Quewin Nortje giving the South Africans a 14-7 lead at the break. A stylish try from skipper Davids extended South Africa’s lead, before Spain scored a consolation try in the closing stages of the game.
The Springbok Sevens will next play Argentina in their final pool game on Saturday morning at 6.38am.
