The Canon Eagles have confirmed the signing of Stormers utility back SP Marais for the 2019-2020 Japanese Top League season.

Marais and centre Jesse Kriel, will link up with compatriots Rynier Bernardo, Jan de Klerk and Fred Zeilinga at the Japanese club, coached by former Springboks boss Allister Coetzee.

The 30-year-old Marais is somewhat of a journeyman, having previously turned out for the Boland Cavaliers, EP Kings, Leopards, Sharks and Bulls before joining Western Province and the Stormers.

‘Marais will add new value to the Eagles. He is a utility back with an excellent left boot and a very skillful player. He is a true professional, so I look forward to working with him,’ Coetzee said of his team’s new acquisition.
