On the eve of the crunch Vodacom United Rugby Championship quarter-final, John Dobson has confirmed his full and unwavering commitment to the DHL Stormers project.
Dobson, who has headed up the Stormers revival to become Vodacom United Rugby Championship winners last season, was among the coaches favoured to succeed Jacques Nienaber when the Springbok head coach steps down after the World Cup.

However, on Ryan O’Connor’s breakfast show on SmileFM, Dobson confirmed that he is fully committed to seeing through the project that he started at the Stormers, when he was first appointed in 2019.
“We have sold this vision and we have only just started,” said Dobson. “I have said to the players that we are going to build a dynasty here and make Cape Town smile. I can’t just say to the chaps, ‘Sorry I have a better job’. It would just undo it.
“Once this project is much more advanced and complete and this team is really fizzing in Cape Town, only then, if I was lucky enough. But no, I want to stay here and finish what we started.”
Dobson’s commitment will come as a boost to the Stormers as the defending champions prepare to face the Vodacom Bulls in the Vodacom URC quarter-finals at a packed DHL Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
