One of SA rugby’s top speedsters and try-line predators is being lined up to play for the Barbarians in the clash with the World XV on 28 May.
Baabaas boss Eddie Jones has reportedly approached several leading Test players to represent the invitational team for the one-off fixture in London, where he will renew hostilities with World XV coach Steve Hansen.
According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, Springbok winger Sbu Nkosi has been targeted by Jones, who will be returning to Twickenham for the first time since being sacked as England head coach.
The Australian may be the one to help revive the troubled winger’s Test career with a chance on an international stage ahead of the World Cup in four months’ time.
His battles with mental health now well documented, the 16-Test-cap flyer last played for the Boks in 2021 and has been left out of the first of two preparation camps in Durban in May.
Nkosi is expected to be joined at the Baabaas by Carlu Sadie, but it is understood that the Sharks prop’s teammate, scrumhalf Grant Williams, will have to decline and won’t be released by Bok management.
It was previously reported that UK-based Bok centre Andre Esterhuizen will also feature for the invitational side.
