SARugbymag.co.za readers rubbished plans by the RFU to enforce waist-height tackling in amateur rugby across England.
In effect from 1 July 2023, all players at age grade and senior amateur level in England will be required to make waistline or lower tackles.
This comes shortly after a group of 55 players from the amateur era reportedly sent a letter of claim to World Rugby, the WRU and the RFU to launch their lawsuit over possible brain injuries.
The decision has, however, been met with a flurry of outrage by former and current players, not to mention the counter-productive results of recent attempts to lower tackle height in the professional ranks.

A poll run by SARugbymag.co.za asked fans for their view of the law change and the results were overwhelmingly negative.
Almost two thirds (64%) of readers called the implementation of waist-high tackling “a bad joke”, while 18% said lowering the tackle height simply was not a good idea, bringing the negative response to 82% of those polled.
Only 3% felt that this was a long-overdue change, while 13% thought that it was worth a try to make the game safer.
