Former Springbok centre Jaques Fourie is undoubtedly the king of the Lions pride after waltzing into SARugbymag’s Lions Hall of Fame.
Fourie is the first Lion and third player to achieve SAR Hall of Famer status, joining 2007 World Cup-winning teammates Os du Randt, inducted into the Cheetahs Hall of Fame, and Fourie du Preez, who is enshrined in the Bulls Hall of Fame.
In a landslide victory, Fourie led the poll from the get-go before finishing with a dominant 57% of the vote.
Lions coaching legend and former Springbok lock, Johan Ackermann finished second with 17% of the vote, followed by Kobus Wiese (11%), Japie Mulder (7%), Joe van Niekerk (4%) and John Daniels (3%).

Fourie was blessed with great power, deceptive speed and had his opponents sweating when he hit the gainline at full tilt. He made 68 Super Rugby appearances, dotting down 24 times from 2003 to 2009 and currently serves as the Lions defence coach since taking the post in 2021.
