Human named as new Bok scrum coach

The Cheetahs have confirmed that Daan Human has been appointed by SA Rugby as the new Springbok scrum coach.

Human will take over from Matt Proudfoot, who has left South Africa to become the new England forwards coach.

Despite earning wide praise for his role in the Springboks’ World Cup victory, Proudfoot did not have his contract with SA Rugby renewed and he decided to join Eddie Jones’ set-up.

While there has been no official release from SA Rugby itself, the Cheetahs broke the news as they congratulated their former assistant on his appointment.

‘Free State Rugby is incredibly proud of another top coach from the Cheetahs who has been appointed by SARU,’ the statement read. ‘Daan Human, a former scrum coach and ex-Cheetah[s] player has now been appointed by SARU as the new Springbok scrum coach.’

Human, 43, played 26 matches for the Stormers before heading to French Top 14 giants Toulouse where he made 169 appearances. He also has four Springbok caps.

He made his name as scrum coach with the Cheetahs before being loaned to the Vodacom Bulls during their 2019 Vodacom Super Rugby campaign.
