Leicester Tigers have signed an up-and-coming loose forward from the Vodacom Bulls as a replacement for outgoing Springbok No 8 Jasper Wiese.
According to a report by the Telegraph, Leicester are set to confirm the signing of Junior Springbok Player of the Year Corne Beets as a long-term replacement for Wiese.
Leicester confirmed in December that Wiese would be leaving the club, bringing an end to a four-year stint in the Premiership. It appears that Japan is a likely destination for the World Cup winner.
Beets, named Junior Springbok Player of the Year at the 2023 SA Rugby awards, started four games at last year’s U20 World Championship, helping South Africa claim a bronze medal on home soil.
The 20-year-old has yet to make a senior appearance for the Vodacom Bulls and reportedly turned down an offer of a contract extension to start a new journey in England.
According to the report, Leicester are happy to give Beets time to adjust to life in the East Midlands as they also have former Bulls captain Hanro Liebenberg and fellow South African flank Kyle Hatherell in their squad.
