Kitshoff on break: It’s understandable

Stormers captain Steven Kitshoff has no issue with Vodacom Super Rugby going into a Covid-19-enforced break because health overrides sport.

The Cape franchise slumped to their second consecutive defeat on Saturday going down to the Sharks and were due to travel to Argentina to face the Jaguares next week before Sanzaar suspended the season.

Though disappointed in the outcome, Kitshoff was pleased with how both sides turned up for the occasion at Kings Park.

‘It was a wonderful advertisement for South African rugby in front of a great crowd. Both sides pitched up and we had a typical South African derby – very physical with possession fiercely contested,’ he said.

Quizzed on the suspension of the competition, he said: ‘The suspension is unfortunate but understandable because the good health of people has to come before sport. Let us hope the break is short.’

Earlier, Sanzaar said they had ‘no option but to suspend the 2020 Super Rugby tournament at the conclusion of this weekend’s matches for the foreseeable future.’
