Former Springbok lock Victor Matfield is reportedly on the shortlist of candidates to fill the vacant UP-Tuks coaching post.
Despite going into the 2023 Varsity Cup as defending champions, Tuks suffered the ignominy of relegation to the Varsity Shield after finishing their campaign without a single win.

According to Sunday newspaper Rapport, a decision has been made by Tuks to part ways with head coach Nico Luus, pending a settlement between the two parties.
The former Lions forward was appointed as head coach in 2019 and guided Tuks to successive Varsity Cup titles in 2021 and 2022.
Matfield’s previous coaching experience consists of serving as a lineout consultant at the Vodacom Bulls in 2013 after he initially retired from playing following the 2011 World Cup. He also served as an assistant coach at the Lions in 2017.
Other names linked to the role are Nollis Marais, Scott Mathie and Wessel du Plessis.
