Bishops and Paarl Gymnasium came out with bragging rights on a Saturday jam-packed with schools derbies across the country.
In the landmark 150th derby between the two schools, Bishops claimed an entertaining 31-25 home victory over SACS.
SACS went into the oldest schools derby in South Africa having previously beaten Bishops on the Piley Rees field last year.
In the Premier Interschools clash, Paarl Gymnasium shrugged off a hangover from the Wildeklawer tournament to beat Paul Roos 24-19 in Stellenbosch. Both teams were involved in attritional clashes in the Wildeklawer on Monday, but it was Paarl Gym who adjusted better and settled the score after Paul Roos upset them last year on home turf.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Maritzburg stamped their authority with a convincing 42-15 win over Glenwood, while Hilton sneaked past Durban High in a 36-33 thriller.
Further north, Garsfontein continued their dominance in the Pretoria derby with a 50-31 win over Waterkloof. Garsfontein captain and No 8 Abri van der Westhuizen scored a hat-trick. Meanwhile, Monument needed a late surge to beat Nelspruit 40-20 after the school from Mpumalanga took a surprise lead with eight minutes to go.
