John Dobson has tasked Western Province under interim head coach Labeeb Levy with beating the Sharks on Sunday, in the grander scheme of the Capetonians’ 2023 season.
He takes charge for the Currie Cup clash in Durban while Dobson will jet off to Ireland with the DHL Stormers ahead of Friday’s top-of-the-table duel in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship against Leinster.
Levy, who is the head performance analyst and skills coach at WP Rugby, will call the shots at Kings Park, alongside kicking coach Gareth Wright and forwards consultant Hanyani Shimange.

Dobson and the rest of the Stormers coaching team travel to Dublin in search of a first away victory against Leinster – still unbeaten in 2022-23 – in the URC, but expect to be back in the Republic for Sunday’s coastal clash.
Addressing the changes in the coaches’ box for a WP side riding the wave of back-to-back wins this season, Dobson said: “Labeeb will stay with the Currie Cup team for the start of [this] week, but we will get to the game.
“But Labeeb will run the programme with Shimmy [Shimange] and Gareth Wright. We have done a lot of prep work already. It won’t be fair for us to fly in on the day of the game and take over from Labeeb.
“So he will run things, but we will be there on Sunday.”
