The promising Jurie Matthee has reportedly put pen to paper on a contract with Western Province Rugby, and bolster the union’s flyhalf ranks from next season.
According to a report on Netwerk24, the 22-year-old Matthee has signed a one-year deal with WP Rugby.
A star performer for Maties in this year’s Varsity Cup, he featured for WP in the Currie Cup and ended the competition with a strong outing in a 44-5 win against the Sharks.
“I think that last game against the Sharks, where he was the Player of the Match, made them realise he is a good player,” Matthee’s agent, Michael Thomas, was quoted by Netwerk24.
“There was another union or two that were interested, but he is very happy about the decision he made.”
With Springboks Manie Libbok and Damian Willemse the DHL Stormers’ go-to options at No 10, and Kade Wolhuter’s serious knee injury, Matthee will provide options for WP alongside Jean-Luc du Plessis and Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu next season.
